From when we started the track works we have cut the grass areas. Strimmed around all the edges. Rolled the track, walk ways and viewing area. Repairs have been carried out to the worst areas of the astro, tubing & barrier boards. Improved the hand rails to the rostrum steps, repaired the gate and cleared 3 car car loads of rubbish. All of which got the track in a usable state. This week Dean and myself have been giving all the grass another cut and strim, so that's starting to look fairly tidy and we have been reversing the barrier boards to loose the jagged broken ends and exposing the half decent back side. Tomorrow we can get stuck into a bit more clearing up and continue clearing the track of weeds and moss, as well as turning some more boards around. It's all go at Cornwall RC Racing.

Definitely a day of two parts today. In the sun and out of the wind it was glorious and warm but out in the wind it was bitter! Who would think that it was nearly summer!

Started doing a bit of work on the back straight today, Looking at the line of the track, I recon we can move the switchback end of the back straight out about 600mm giving a more open corner so cars are less prone to kissing the barriers on the exit of the bend. The barriers can then be realigned as they are all over the place and in a really poor condition. While I know that there are far worst areas that need some attention first, there is a lot of spare astro turf been used for patching and covering a narrow strip of grass in this area, that when used more efficiently, can go on to doing decent repairs else where on the track. So I'll be getting the Farms digger in there next weekend, pull off the astro, give the Mole infestation a good seeing too, and maybe just add a little something to keep us all on our toes for the next race!

Which corner is the best? Switch back, corner into the back straight or the one at the end of the back straight?
Was there a reason the tubing was kept short on the switchback? was it because cars were crashing into the barriers too much or were you just short of tubing?

The 1 at the end of the back straight is the best corner. The 2nd corner (switchback) the tubing broke so we never got round to fixing it thats why it it is short..

That's fine, we wont be touching the right hand end corner at this time, although it will need some attention at some stage as it has a dip that holds water when there has been a lot of rain. It also has an adverse camber at the top leading edge that throws the cars into the barriers and holds them there around the corner if they get the approach too high.
If anyone feels like coming down and lending a hand this weekend, I'll be there from Friday morning to Monday night, improving the back straight. There will be plenty of other jobs that can be done as well, so look forward to seeing you there.

All I'm managing to get done this weekend is some work on the big mower in the barn. In one way it's handy as we do need to get it going, but it was more important to get the track work finished. Hopefully we can get that done next week before the 21st.

There will be a few of us doing a bit of work at the track this Friday & Saturday, if anyone fancy's popping along to lend a hand. There are always things to do. Main things this weekend are getting the back straight finished off and getting the grass cut.

Spike, Dean and myself managed to get the track works to the back straight finished off ready for the weekend. The addition of the soil and sculpting the approach to the turn seemed to do what was intended, making the lane more visible to the drivers, as well as slowing the cars a little sooner, resulting in the drivers having more control of their cars, so not taking out the tubing on the exit of the corner. Result! Further track Improvements will be taking place before each race.

Last weekends track work saw a few changes to the appearance of the track, with all the fragile green tubing being removed from the track and replaced with another 250m of the heavy tug rope. We are still about 150m short, but the shortfall is being taken up by the Black plastic tubing, which is in pretty good condition and should last until we can find another supply of the heavy rope. In addition to the rope, the take off ramp of the jump prior to the tabletop has been reshaped to give a smoother take off, the run up to the jump has been regraded to loose some of the cross fall, as well as take out the mole tracks that appeared under the astro soon after it was first laid. The astro turf has been lifted and relaid, removing any surplus that was being lost under grass and weeds, as it can be put to better use repairing the rough areas elsewhere on the track. All relaid areas and most of the infield has been rolled to firm it up, where it was still very soft under foot. There have been a few slight tweaks to some of the corners to move the stress points on the astro turf as well as to make the rope lenghts fit better, nothing much, just small adjustments!!!
As ALL the tubing and rope has had to be adjusted and repositioned, it all needs fixing down again, so some help for the members/regular users would be very useful before the race on Sunday, and if anyone is available on Friday or Saturday, again your assistance would invaluable, as not only does the tubing/rope need securing, but the relaid astro need tightening before pinning down, that really a two person job to do it right! and most of the grass is shooting up and in need of another cut. If anyone can make it along on Friday or Saturday, please let me know so I can plan the day around whos going to be there.
We've also got 4 trailers of tubing to get rid of once the disposal of it has been confirmed. The odd Black bag or three of astro sweeping and offcuts we can sneak into the tip, but 400 odd meters of tubing is not something we can drop off without being noticed!!!!
